Jaś & Małgosia – a new energy in the Warsaw historic cafe.
Cafe Jaś i Małgosia appeared at al. Jana Pawła II (then Marchlewskiego street) already in 1967 . For a long time it was one of the most famous Warsaw cafes. For many years it kept its original style. One of its symbols was a beautiful neon. The saturator and the coffee machine, reminded of a juke box. Counter in the 70s style and original furniture from the 60s made Jaś & Małgosia a time machine of a kind. After 2000 the cafe started to open up shyly to the modern needs of its guests. Coffee, wine, concerts, discussions, exhibitions, slide shows and dancing parties began to encourage also the younger audience.
What lacked, was the final touch. In 2011 the cafe was taken over by the Italians, who tried to convert it into an Italian restaurant. The idea was however not welcome. So the cafe stayed empty for a couple of months.
Today this full of exceptional energy and history place is led by Arkadiusz Solarz, Maciej Marks and Mariusz Solarz, who are known for two cafes in Powiśle (Club-Cafe Grawitacja and Cafe Kafka).
- We would like to bring back the old glow oft he place, and in the same time replenish it with the offer responding to modern needs of body and soul. We wanted to create a fairy tale for the grown up, where everyone feels at home - they say.
In August 2014 started general renovation of the interiors. Following the openning in autumn last year the cafe hosts regularly : movie shows, DIY workshops, meetings with writers, concerts, and many other initiatives aiming at cultural revival of the neighborhood. The hosts invite to cooperation everyone, who wants to do something special.
